Population of Turkey
Turkey has a population of approximately 68 million, the great majority of whom are Turks. The Kurds form the largest minority group amounting to nearly 12 million people, although there are also small groups of Laz and Hemsin people along the Black Sea coast, and Yoruks and Tahtacis along the eastern Mediterranean coast.
About 70 000 Armenians still live in Turkey, mainly in Istanbul and around Lake Van. Most of the ethnic Greeks still living in Turkey are also settled in Istanbul. A few Pontic Greeks live in the remote valleys of the eastern Black Sea. There are also small communities of Circassians, Assyrians, Tatars, Arabs, Roma and Jews.
