Istanbul is a fascinating city with hundreds of interesting and historical places to visit.
On this place I somehow try to gather Istanbul’s best places to see so that you can have a quick view on what the city has to offer.
Of course this is a small list and I’m excluding other very beautiful and important sightseeing places in Istanbul.
Istanbul most beautiful building is considered to be also one of the most beautiful place in the World. Visit Hagia Sophia’s to get amazed at this piece of history.
2-Sultan Ahmed Mosque – Blue Mosque
This 15 century amazing mosque is the biggest religious building in Istanbul. You can walk around inside the mosque and explore its marvelous interiors.
This exquisit palace was built in 1856 by sultan Abdul Mecit. This is the most extravagant building of the city, and the place where Ataturk lived for many years.
The first of all the Ottoman Sultan’s palaces ever built after the conquest of the city during the late 15th century. Another great and eccentric palace, that houses many generations of sultans.
The Basilica Cistern was built during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian back in the 6th century. Explore this underground ancient cistern, ornamented with 336 marble columns.
The second biggest mosque of the city was ordered built by the sultan Suleyman the Magnificent and finished by 1558 by the architect Mimar Sinan.
7-Istanbul University Main Gate
This beautiful Ottoman gate is the entrance of the main campus of the university. Tis landmark gate was once upon a time the Ottoman ministry of war.
Labyrinth os streets tempt you to buy carpets, tea, sweats and local pastries, clothes, handicraft, wooden biblos, furniture, necklaces and all type of souvenirs.
This ancient watch tower over the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn is one of Istanbul landmarks. Go up the tower for magnificent panoramic views over Istanbul’s both sides of continents: Europe and Asia.
10-Sirkeci Train Station
This gorgeous train station was built to receive the famous Orient Express coming from Europe. The nice building officially open back in 1890 is a bit forgotten since the present station main entrance is not done through old ancient and beautiful facade. Go to the left side of the station and get amazed with this piece of architecture.
