Tipping in Turkey
Tips are generally modest in Turkey in the size of just a few percent of the price paid. Although Turkish liras are the preferred currency for tipping, you may leave tip in whatever currency you wish as long as you give notes and not coins for the simple reason that coins cannot easily be exchanged for Turkish liras. Here are some examples for tipping in different circumstances:
Hotels Tipping in Turkey: Porters will be glad with 50 cent to US$1 per bag.
Restaurants Tipping in Turkey: Small tips (5% to 10%) are appreciated but not obligatory.
Taxis Tipping in Turkey: Don't tip here but just round the fare upwards to a convenient amount. So if the fare is YTL5.8, round up to YTL6.
Turkish Baths Tipping: at the end of your bath the attendants there will line up, expecting a tip for the service. 15% of the total price shared between all the attendants is a reasonable tip.
