Nargile

Hubble-bubble pipe, widely-known as nargile, is one of the oldest traditions in Turkey and has enthusiasts of all ages and sexes all around the world who find great pleasure in smoking it. The tradition of smoking nargile and the item itself originated from India. However, made out of coconut shells, nargile was rather primitive. Gradually its popularity spread to Iran and to the Arab world.

However the hubble-bubble completed its evolution in Anatolia when brought in the 17th century. Having become a very important part of coffeehouse culture, today the hubble-bubble still continues to give a nargile smokers enjoyment and pleasure. A typical nargile consists of four major parts: body, bowl, tube and mouthpiece. Looked upon as a piece of art, nargile has also rich history. Turkish craftsmen engraved attractive designs such as clear, white or colorful bottles that look as if they were made out of crystallized ice, or more common designs like flowers or fruit.
