By Train

Covering limited number of cities and tourist spots, the Turkish rail network system is a slower means of transportation compared with the bus. Turkish Railways (TCDD) operates passenger trains all over the country and offers sleeping cars, couchettes and restaurant cars, some of which are air-conditioned.

Fares are comparatively low, more expensive are the tickets for express trains. Discounts of 20% are available for students, groups, round-trips and passengers over 60. Children aged seven and under travel for free. Tickets can be purchased at TCDD offices at railway stations and from TCDD-appointed agents.

By train, the daily Bosfor Ekspresi links Budapest, Bucharest, Belgrade and Sofia to Istanbul.
