Seker Bayrami
A major Islamic festival is the three-day holiday called Seker Bayrami (Sweet Holiday), also called Ramazan Bayrami, and which celebrates the end of the month-long fast of Ramazan. It is so named because during this festival children go from door to door asking for sweets and treats.
A favorite treat at this time is rahat lokoum colorful gelatin cubes covered with powdered sugar, known in English as Turkish delight. Their elders go visiting and everybody drinks lots of tea in broad daylight after the long fast. Banks and offices close, hotels, buses, trains and planes are booked solid.
